Donald F Hamilton

Biography

Don Hamilton took his first flight with his barnstorming father in 1939. Don logged 26,000 hours in some of the world’s most rugged aircraft. He earned his Private Pilot’s certificate at the age of eighteen and his commercial ticket two years later. In the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve he became proficient at performing aerobatics and practice carrier landings. Later he earned his Class One Instrument Rating & Air Transport License. After briefly flying in the Canadian Maritimes, Don headed north where he would spend the majority of his life and flying career. He and his family lived in some of the most northern and remote communities. Don and wife Marlene opened one of the first sportfishing lodges north of the Arctic Circle. High Arctic Lodge is the northernmost hunting and fishing lodge in North America. It is owned and operated by Don’s son Fred, a third generation aviator.Don and life-long companion Marlene have four children, Fred, Jim, Gord and Wendy. They now live in Kelowna, BC.
